This year I have spent many hours engaged in professional conversation and learning with my Principal about the development of Digital Learning Stories as a way of reflecting on learning.
The idea is to reflect on the journey that learning takes and tell the story with work samples, reflections, photos and videos. This concept aligns very well with the inquiry approach to learning. I start the process around week 2-3 of a new inquiry by creating a story map of the tuning in section of the inquiry.
I started modelling learning stories to my students in term three as a part of my action research question; "How do I explicitly teach independence and reflection on learning". I found the learning stories beneficial as a launching pad for digital learning journeys as they focus on the learning, rather than the presentation tool. Students can relate their learning story via a range of digital tools; powerpoint, inspiration, edcube, wikis...the list is limited only by the realms of their imaginations. I have some photos below of our term 4 learning journey.

The learning journey story mapping idea is a great planning strategy for guiding the kids personal learning stories (digital portfolios). When they do their own they could list the way they can show their learning under each new entry. This could be with reflections, drawings, movies, photos, work samples etc.
To help this process in term four, we created a giant version of our learning journey on the back wall. The kids loved it. Check out the photograph below and this inspiration version of our journey so far.
