Welcome to my wiki! I am using this space to build a story of my learning as a second year teacher.

A bit of background information

I worked for 5 years in the disability employment industry working in a variety of roles that assisted people with disabilities gain and maintain award wage employment. Whilst this work was always challenging and rewarding, I still didn't feel like I was where I was meant to be. I had always wanted to be a teacher but felt that I lacked the confidence to do it well when I first finished school. In 2004, I decided it was time. I applied for and was accepted to the Graduate Diploma (Education) at RMIT, Bundoora.

After varied practical placements, I knew that I had found my place. I was definitely going to be a teacher for the rest of my life! I got my first teaching job in a grade 4/5 class at St Albans Heights Primary School (one week before term started, phew!). I had a great first year and absolutely loved the student population of the Western Region. Though I live in the north, I grew up in the west and remembered how crucial my teachers were in inspiring me to overcome my "demographic" and achieve my goals. I wanted to be that inspiration to the 'me's' of this generation.

This year, my second year, I have been working at Sunshine Primary School. It has been quite a journey as I have been guided and pushed to take risks with my teaching and learning. I feel like the first three terms have provided me with 3 years of learning! My teaching in term 1 is so far from where I currently am and I am really proud of the many achievements I have had this year.

I would love for you to reflect on this journey with me as I build my story on the pages of this wiki...enjoy!

Jen.
